چکیده

SUMMARY State of the arts on guided-wave optical switch arrays are reviewed. In this paper, electro-optic Ti:LiNbO 3 devices are mainly described in comparison with crosspoint switch element structures and switch array architectures. Packaging technologies and stability problems are discussed for practical system applications. Recent development on other materials such as semiconductor waveguides, thermo-optic glass/polymer waveguides are also reviewed briefly.

Guided Wave Piezoelectric Wafer Active Sensor Arrays For Damage Detection

The paper describes an in-situ method for damage detection using phased arrays of piezoelectric wafers active sensors (PWAS) that are permanently attached to the structure. The method uses scanning beams of guided waves that can travel at large distances with little energy loss and hence permit the interrogation of large structural areas from a single location. The novelty of the present method...

On the Optimum Directivity of Uniformly Spaced Broadside Arrays of Parallel Half-Wave Dipoles (RESEARCH NOTES)

The nominal directivity for uniformly spaced broadside parallel half-wave dipoles associated with a uniform excitation is evaluated. The amplitude distribution for an optimized directivity is then obtained for different numbers of elements with the separations between the dipoles as a variable. The optimum and nominal directivities are compared for different spacings of the elements. While thes...

Soliton-based optical switching in waveguide arrays

We analyze the propagation of discrete solitons in a periodic system of weakly coupled nonlinear optical waveguides, i.e., a waveguide array. Soliton reflection, transmission, and trapping, as well as coherent and incoherent interaction with a linear guided wave [which can exist owing to defect (inhomogeneous) coupling between two neighboring waveguides], are demonstrated numerically and invest...

In situ 2-D piezoelectric wafer active sensors arrays for guided wave damage detection.

This paper presented development work of an in situ method for damage detection in thin-wall structures using embedded two-dimensional ultrasonic phased arrays. Piezoelectric wafer active sensors were used to generate and receive guided Lamb waves propagating in the plate-like structure. The development of a generic beamforming algorithm that does not require parallel ray assumption through usi...
